• Established in 1946 by a determined trio of retired engineers, The National Institute Of Engineering began in a modest hut within a high school premises.
• By 1950, it secured affiliation with the University of Mysore, followed by AICTE approval in 1986.
• Subsequently, in 1998, it became affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU).
• Achieving autonomy from VTU in 2007, NIE offers seven undergraduate and three postgraduate programs, marking its prominence.

• The Library and Information Centre of the NIE was established in 1946, since it is one of the best engineering college libraries among engineering colleges in the state and it is available with books related to engineering and allied subjects.
• The library collection has 1,10,510 volumes including ebooks and subscribing for more than 54 Technical Journals, 30 general magazines.
• More than 2500 CDs and DVDs related to subjects are available.
• NIE’s Digital Library has multimedia facilities with 20 Systems and accesses the e-Journals, e-books, NPTEL videos and other education materials.

Hostel

• The National Institute Of Engineering has provided separate hostel facilities for male and female students designed to support all the essentials.
• The boys’ hostel located behind the administration block has a total of four floors with an area of 72,920 sq.ft.
• The available capacity to accommodate 486 students with all modern amenities to students for a comfortable stay at the campus.This has open-air amphitheater for celebrations and cultural events, a fully-equipped gym, a common lobby, WiFi access, separate room for watching TV, hot water geysers with 24 hours water supply and washing machines on each floor.
• The kitchen is well-stocked and has a multi-cuisine option with a different menu each day, snacks and fruits are available on alternative days.
• The anti-ragging squad of faculty members from across departments is available to ensuring student safety and zero ragging activities in the hostel.
• The Girls hostel is situated within the lush green NIE campus’s golden jubilee block.
• There are two hostel facilities named Yeshvika and Yuvika are provided for girls.These are well equipped to accommodate over 310 students.
• These are provided with the same facilities as the boys hostel.
