Mizoram University was established in 2001, and it has been steadily growing to provide comprehensive education across various disciplines through its 39 academic departments organized into 10 Schools of Study.
In 2007, the School of Engineering & Technology (SET) was established with six departments, is to produce globally competitive technical professionals dedicated to serving diverse communities, and to be a center for both teaching and research in the field of Engineering and Technology.
The admission of SET 50% of seats in each program is filled through JEE Main, while the rest are allocated through the Mizoram University Engineering Entrance Examination (MZUEEE).

Hostel
Mizoram University offers spacious and well-furnished hostels for its students and there are twelve hostels on campus, with 7 for boys and 5 for girls.
Each hostel provides basic amenities such as water purifiers, a common room, a recreation room, a TV, laundry services, a security and surveillance system, and free internet through Wi-Fi are available.
There is a large dining hall with a mess facility for all hostel residents and live-in wardens, and a faculty member oversees the accommodation in each hostel, Round-the-clock water and electricity facilities are available for the students.

Mizoram University, the Sports Department, led by the Assistant Director of Physical Education and supported by coaches, organizes various sports programs both on and off campus.
