Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), has established the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) to organize the joint seat allocation process for admissions to 118 institutes. This includes 23 IITs, 26 IIITs, IIEST Shibpur, 31 NITs, Schools of Planning and Architecture, and 38 Other Govt Funded Technical Institutes(GFTI).

Eligibility
Minimum 75% aggregate marks in the Class XII. Aggregate marks for SC, ST and PH candidates should be greater than or equal to 65%.
Candidate should be within top 20 percentile marks of the respective board of examination in which they appeared for 12th examination.

- NIT, IIEST Shibpur, PEC Chandigarh – State Quota – 50%, Non State Quota – 50%
- Assam University Silchar – State Quota – 50%, All India Quota – 50%
- Birla Institute of Technology – State Quota – 50%, All India Quota – 50%
- Pondicherry Engineering College – State Quota – 50%, All India Quota – 50%
Home State Quota is applicable for candidates who are domicile/nativity of the state where the college is located. Non state Quota is applicable for candidates who are not domicile of that state which includes all other states/UT.
The Home State Quota for Ghani Khan Choudhary Institute of Engineering and Technology Malda includes the candidates from the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, and Sikkim
Home State quota seats of NIT Goa are further divided into 80% for Goa candidates and 20% for candidates from Diu, Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli and Lakshadweep.
Home State Quota seats of NIT Srinagar is divided as 90% for Jammu and Kashmir candidates and 10% for Ladakh candidates.

Rank Lists
- Seat allocation in IITs is based on JEE (Advanced) 2023 rank and seat allocation in Other colleges is based on JEE (Main) 2023 rank.
- Rank lists for admission to IITs are based on the performance of candidates in JEE (Advanced) 2023.
- Common Rank List (CRL) is prepared for Open Seats.
- Category Rank List is prepared for each reservation category such as EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST
- For PH seats, separate category wise PH rank list is prepared under each reservation category such as EWS-PH, OBC-PH, SC-PH, ST-PH
- Separate common rank list and category rank lists are prepared for BE/BTech, BArch and BPlan Paper
- Separate common rank list and category rank lists are prepared for Home State Candidates and Non Home State candidates
Counselling Process
After allotment candidate options – Freeze, Slide, Float
Freeze – Candidate accepts the allotted seat and do not want to participate in further round of counselling
Float – Candidate accepts the allotted seat but interested to get higher preference in any college in subsequent rounds of counselling.
Slide and float options are NOT available in the last round of JoSAA counselling
For non IIT college, physical reporting at admitted college will be done only after the completion of CSAB Special Rounds.
At the end of the 6th round of JoSAA counselling, candidates allotted seat in any round of JoSAA counselling are required to pay the Partial Admission Fee (PAF) – Rs 36000/16000 through JoSAA portal
