The Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) was set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development MHRD in order to handle the centralized admission counselling for all undergraduate seats in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, and Planning at institutions like NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and GFTIs.

 At the end of JoSAA counselling Rounds, vacant seats of the NITs IIITs and other GFTIs, if any, are filled through two additional Special Rounds of counselling by CSAB.

Quick Summary

Eligible Candidate Types

Type-1: Candidates who did not register in JoSAA rounds
Type-2: Candidates participated in JoSAA but not allotted any seat
Type-3: Participated in JoSAA and have been allotted seats but cancelled due to non-payment of SAF.
Type-4: Candidates exercised EXIT option during JoSAA.
Type-5: Allotted IIT Seat in JoSAA and later cancelled, withdrawn or taken admission
Type-6: Allotted seats in any college other than IIT and paid SAF and PAF
Type-7: Allotted seats in any college other than IIT and withdrawn
Type-8: Allotted seats in any college other than IIT and their admission got cancelled after verification
Type-9: Allotted seats in any college other than IIT and got cancelled due to non-payment of PAF

As candidate types 1 to 5 would not have paid fees, they need to pay Rs 44000(40000 as PAF and 4000 as processing fees) during CSAB counselling. For types 6 to 9, fees paid during JOSAA counselling will be adjusted and the remaining amount needs to be paid during the CSAB counselling including the Rs 4000 counselling processing fees.

Counselling Types

• CSAB Special Rounds: After completion of JoSAA counselling, if any seats remain vacant in NIT, IIIT, GGTIs, two more special counselling rounds are conducted.
• CSAB Supernumerary Round: Admission to supernumerary seats in NIT Durgapur, Calicut, SVNIT Surat for candidates of Dadra Nagar Haveli, Diu Daman, Andaman and Nicobar, and Lakshadweep
• CSAB NEUT Rounds: Admission to seats available under the scheme of “UTs lacking Technical Institutions” for North Eastern states and Union Territories.

Counselling Process

The CSAB counselling process involves various stages given below:
(i) Online Registration
(ii) Payment of Institute Admission Fees-I + Special Round Enrolment Fee
(iii) Online Choice Filling and Locking
(iv) Special Round-I : Seat Allotment, Choose Acceptance Willingness Choice, Upload Documents, Payment of Institute Admission Fees-II, Online Reporting and Document Verification
(v) Special Round-II: Seat Allotment, Upload Documents, Payment of Institute Admission Fees-II, Online Reporting and Document Verification
(vi) Physical Reporting at the Allotted Institute

Choices filled during JoSAA counselling is not considered for CSAB, so fresh choice filling should be done based on the seat matrix released before the Ist special round counselling. All choices irrespective of seat vacancy will be available for choice filling.

After allotment candidate options – Freeze, Slide, Float, Surrender, Withdraw, Exit

Freeze – Candidate accepts the allotted seat and do not want to participate in further round of counselling

Float – Candidate accepts the allotted seat but interested to get higher preference in any college in subsequent rounds of counselling.

Surrender – Candidate rejects allotted seat and wants to participate in Special Round -2

Withdraw – Candidate rejects allotted seat and wants to withdraw from Special Round-2 counselling

Exit – Candidates who did not get any allotment wants to exit and do not want to participate in Special Round-2 counselling

After seat allotment of Special Round-I, candidates who choose FREEZE/SLIDE/ FLOAT need to upload all the required documents, and must pay the Institute Admission Fee-II online. IAF-II is Rs 32,000/- for
GN/EWS/OBC candidates and RS 12,000/- for SC/ST/PH candidates.

After IAF-II payment, documents are verified and online admission is completed. Candidates needs to do physical reporting at the allotted college only after the CSAB special Round-2 completion.

Candidates holding seat in DASA-2023 are not allowed to participate in the CSAB-Special Round counselling. They must surrender or withdraw their DASA counselling seat in order to become eligible for Special CSAB Round.
